Ismena – Be My Water

Be My Water is the first single taken from Ismena‘s upcoming third album Please Don’t Ask Me How I’ve Been, which is expected in March 2026.
“Be My Water is a song about the feeling of coming home after a long day,” the Dutch singer-songwriter’s described on Bandcamp.
The slow piano combined with her melancholic voice perfectly encapture the feeling of a day that has already crescendoed, the moments of silent rest after the fact. Excellent and soulful, it is a fan favorite in the making. She crafts her real-life experiences into indie folk gems that play equally with wonder and melancholy.
The vocals, piano, and synthesizer were all performed by Ismena, with drums provided by Daan Wopereis. They were mixed and mastered by Temple Fang guitarist Ivy van der Veer, who also worked with Ismena on the psychedelic folk project Myriad’s Veil.
Ismena’s first release Breathe Me was out in 2018. Since then, she has published two albums and three singles, including Be My Water.
Lyrics
Can I rest on your chest?
When my day is done
I will lie down and rest
Finally alone
I know you well
I think I understand
But how did you get so right?
Be my water at high tide and pull me through
You are the one that I turn to
Can I ask once again?
I just need to hear
You say that you’ll be there
And you will
Be my water at high tide and pull me through
You are the one that I turn to
