Twenty One Pilots – Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes cover)

Twenty One Pilots Cover The White Stripes

Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun of Twenty One Pilots delivered a powerful performance of The White Stripes’ classic Seven Nation Army at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, with Jack White seated among the audience while a woman honors Meg White on a T-shirt. Jack and Meg White were officially inducted into the Rock Hall by Iggy Pop this year, who himself joined the Hall back in 2010. However, the sister and brother split up as a band in 2011.

Watch the Ohio duo’s performance of The White Stripes’ iconic song, published as the lead single of their fourth studio Elephant (V2 Records/XL Recordings, 2003).

The woman’s T-shirt was designed by James from the Canadian charity Stubbs Letterpress.

Lyrics

I’m gonna fight ’em off
A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back
They’re gonna rip it off
Takin’ their time right behind my back
And I’m talkin’ to myself at night
Because I can’t forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette
And the message comin’ from my eyes
Says, “Leave it alone”
Don’t wanna hear about it
Every single one’s got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell
And if I catch it comin’ back my way
I’m gonna serve it to you
And that ain’t what you want to hear
But that’s what I’ll do
And the feelin’ comin’ from my bones
Says, “Find a home”
I’m goin’ to Wichita
Far from this opera forevermore
I’m gonna work the straw
Make the sweat drip out of every pore
And I’m bleedin’, and I’m bleedin’, and I’m bleedin’
Right before the Lord
All the words are gonna bleed from me
And I will think no more
And the stains comin’ from my blood
Tell me, “Go back home”

The emotional aspect of this cover can’t be overlooked. It’s more than just a great performance; it’s a tribute to the legacy of The White Stripes and their influence on newer bands like Twenty One Pilots.
